Sweets

God uses a figure to show the sweetness of his Word in comparison to this taste

sensation.

     Psalm 119:103:

How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

     Proverbs 24:13-14:

My son, eat thou honey, because it is good; and the honeycomb, which is sweet to thy

taste: So shall the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul: when thou hast found it, then there

shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off.

Honey specifically was also used figuratively to represent the health and abundance of the land

that God promised to give the children of Israel when He delivered them from the slavery of

Egypt.

     Numbers 14:8:

If the LORD delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land

which floweth with milk and honey.

Natural sweets are a special blessing from God. Sweets were something eaten during

celebrations on God’s holy days.

     Nehemiah 8:10:

Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions

unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye

sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength.

The sweetener spoken of most frequently in the Bible is honey. It is used 54 times throughout

the Scripture.

     Proverbs 24:13:

My son, eat thou honey, because it is good; and the honeycomb, which is sweet to thy

     taste:

The Proverbs say to eat honey “because it is good.” It is the nectar of flowers, which bees

gather, store and transport to their honeycombs which is transformed by enzymes into the golden delicious syrup.
